For nearly three decades, Mr. Salah Udin, a resident of Thatta and owner of Ali Motor Garage, has dedicated his life to providing vehicle repair and maintenance services to the local community. Situated along National Highway N-5 in Thatta, his journey is a remarkable example of perseverance, determination, and entrepreneurial spirit. Mr. Salah Udin established Ali Motor Garage in 1996 with an initial investment of only PKR 1,200. With this modest amount, he purchased a basic manual toolkit and paid one month's shop rent, laying the foundation for what would become a trusted local business. Despite his technical skills and commitment to quality service, the business struggled to reach its full potential due to financial constraints, limited workspace, and the lack of modern tools and diagnostic equipment.

For years, these challenges restricted business growth, reduced operational efficiency, and limited the range of services that could be offered to customers. However, Mr. Salah Udin remained steadfast in his commitment to his profession. Through continuous hard work and persistence, he sustained the business despite numerous setbacks and financial hardships. A turning point came when he learned about the PAIDAR Project, funded by UNIDO and implemented by ACT International. Recognizing an opportunity to transform his business, Mr. Salah Udin applied for a business development grant and was successfully awarded PKR 955,000. Demonstrating exceptional commitment to business growth, he further invested approximately PKR 700,000 from his personal savings to complement the grant support.

The grant was utilized to procure advanced automotive diagnostic and maintenance equipment, including a vehicle scanner, injector cleaner machine, catalytic system, endoscopy diagnostic system, testers, and other specialized tools. Simultaneously, his personal investment was used to renovate and upgrade the workshop infrastructure, creating a more professional and customer-friendly working environment. The impact of this investment has been substantial. Within just a few months, Ali Motor Garage experienced a 50 percent increase in service delivery, sales, profits, and customer volume. The introduction of advanced diagnostic technologies such as scanning services, catalytic system maintenance, and endoscopic vehicle inspections has distinguished the garage from competitors and introduced services that were previously unavailable in Thatta.

As a result of enhanced service quality and improved customer confidence, the garage has attracted approximately 60–70 new customers within a period of three to four months. The business has also expanded its workforce, increasing employment opportunities from 3 employees before the grant to 6 employees today, thereby contributing to local economic development. Beyond business growth, the grant has generated significant improvements in household well-being. Increased income has enabled Mr. Salah Udin to invest more in his family's education, healthcare, savings, and overall living standards. The stability and growth of the business have strengthened his family's economic resilience and provided greater confidence for future planning.

Perhaps the most rewarding achievement for Mr. Salah Udin has been the satisfaction of his customers. Positive feedback from clients, including testimonials shared through social media platforms, has enhanced the reputation of Ali Motor Garage and reinforced customer trust in the quality of services being provided. Looking ahead, Mr. Salah Udin envisions further expansion of the garage, continued investment in modern technologies, and the maintenance of high-quality service standards. With renewed confidence and improved business capacity, he is determined to continue serving the people of Thatta while creating additional employment opportunities for unskilled local youth.

Reflecting on his journey, Mr. Salah Udin shared:

"PAIDAR is a hope for the hopeless. It provides an opportunity for hardworking entrepreneurs to transform their businesses. With honesty, sincerity, dedication, and expertise, anyone can become a successful beneficiary and achieve sustainable growth."
